Raising Voices. Uplifting Communities. Building a Nation

Choral Consult is a consultancy specialising in exploring and developing school choir conductors and school management teams to work proactively with learners within a musical environment. We inspire others to sing.

Our Vision

At Choral Consult (CC), our vision to:

  1. Empower school choir conductors—especially those with little or no formal training—to lead with confidence, musical insight, and purpose.
  2. Assist school management teams in understanding the transformative power of choral singing as:
    – a tool for improving discipline;
    – a deep connector to our humanity through beauty;
    – a psychologically enriching experience when done with care;
    – a cultural bridge that fosters unity; and
    – a means of nation-building—one chorister at a time.

Our Mission

Our mission is to:

  1. Equip school leadership teams with clear, practical choral strategies and help them build sustainable choir programmes that align with the school’s identity and values. We bridge the gap between the conductor and management to ensure shared ownership and long-term choir success.
  2. Train and support choir conductors through structured mentorship in
    – planning and managing choral programmes;
    – launching and building a sustainable choir strategy;
    – recruiting and retaining learners (specifically boys) in choirs;
    – applying vocal warm-ups and voice development suited to each choir;
    – selecting repertoires that balance vocal health, artistic value, and audience appeal; and
    – developing conducting gestures, rehearsal techniques, and rehearsal space discipline.

Founder

Xander Kritzinger – Biography

Xander Kritzinger is a South African conductor, tenor, vocal pedagogue, composer, and pianist, with a career rooted in both performance excellence and music education. A former learner and student conductor of the Drakensberg Boys Choir, he later completed his undergraduate, honours and master’s degrees in music at Stellenbosch University, where he currently lectures part-time in voice. His master’s research focuses on the adolescent changing voice (voice mutation).

Xander is the founder, former conductor, and managing director of the Cape Choral Academy—an institution dedicated to promoting holistic and inclusive music education. His strengths lie in strategic thinking and visionary leadership.

Before this, he served for over a decade as the full-time choral conductor and music teacher at Stellenbosch High School.

As a tenor, Xander specialises in early music and has performed with acclaimed professional ensembles such as the Cape Consort and the Cape Town Soloist Choir. A versatile musician, he is also an accomplished pianist and accompanist.

As a composer, he is known for his expressive choral and solo vocal works, including Sing ’n nuwe lied and In die Skadu’s van my siel.

Compositions

As an established composer of predominantly vocal music, Xander draws inspiration from South African folk traditions, ancient modes, and poetry.

He uses his extensive knowledge of the voice and all its facets to design and craft music that promotes healthy, expressive singing. To access existing works suitable for your choir, or to commission a new composition, please contact consult@capechoral.com.
