Language Policy
We employ Afrikaans and English as our primary languages of instruction, while embracing and encouraging the use of other languages. While a significant number of our students hail from the rural regions of the Western Cape, we recognise the vital role that exposure to non-mother tongue languages plays in fostering a diverse and inclusive society, as well as cognitive stimulation.
By offering instruction in a variety of languages, we not only cater to the linguistic needs of our students but also contribute to the enrichment of their cultural experiences. This commitment reflects our dedication to nurturing a non-homogeneous society where individuals from diverse backgrounds can thrive and connect across linguistic boundaries, while still celebrating their own heritage.
The language of music and academic instruction, however, is presented in either Afrikaans or English according to the background or choice of the learner.
Choral music forms a cornerstone of our curriculum, showcasing melodies sung in a myriad of South African and Indo-European languages. This diverse repertoire not only celebrates the richness of linguistic and cultural diversity, but also serves as a gateway for our learners to explore texts from around the world. Through choral performances, our students are immersed in a global tapestry of literature, broadening their cultural horizons and fostering a deep appreciation for the beauty of language in all its forms.
